9th Annual Dynamic Automotive Benefit Car Show

9th Annual Dynamic Automotive Benefit Car Show

It was a beautiful day to have a wonderful event, the Dynamic Automotive 9th Annual Car Show benefiting Second Chances Garage, Building Veterans and a grant to help veterans and their families receive reliable transportation. The event was hosted by Golden Gears, who offered oldies music, a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and kept the event on track. It’s hard to believe that a day in August can have a high in the upper 70s low 80s. We had some clouds but no rain in the area and this helped bring out the fancy cars, trucks and motorcycles, sponsors and the community to take part in the event. There’s nothing better than coming together, to help the community with a special event that combines cars, people, games and food that is all for a good cause. Planning for this event started not long after the beginning of the year. This year we wanted to do something special and expand our partnership with Second Chances Garage. For the past few years we have been a Partner Garage with them, helping to repair vehicles that were being placed in their program to help the community, giving the recipient a Hand Up not a Hand Out. I thought it would be special to create a Veteran’s Grant that was similar to the Woman’s Grant they already had in place. This grant would not be used just to place vehicles in needy homes but would also be used to help maintain and repair vehicles when the recipient did not have enough to cover the cost of repairs. Choosing a date is always a big deal. This year we moved the show up a few weeks. In the past we have had complaints that so many people were on vacation and could not attend the event. This year we took a chance and had the show at the beginning of August instead of the end. Golden Gears had an open slot so we took it and ran with it. Time was tight for us to get the building ready for the show. One would think that it wouldn’t take much to get ready but we truly spend a month cleaning and repairing. The final two weeks are the busiest and you can see in a few of these videos the effort everyone puts into the preparation for the show. There is usually one big repair done each year and this year was no different. The car wash received a new conveyor chain, gears, bearings and rollers. We use the car show as an excuse to close the car wash an entire week to get it back into like new condition and we usually make upgrades each year to make it even better. All in all it’s a lot of work but even the team members will tell you one huge benefit from the show is getting a good old fashion spring cleaning for the shop. Shop appearance is very important to us and this yearly cleaning keeps us on top. Car show participants were showing up early in the morning, trying to get the best spot for the show. With the cool temperatures and partly cloudy over cast skies, the inside parking spots weren’t necessarily top choice. Never the less they were arriving early to get their perfect spot to see everything that was going on while being comfortable. By noon the lot was full and we were close to 100 cars registered for the event. Tom Whalen from WFRE was on hand to promote the show on the radio and in person with gifts and chances to win special prizes. Golden Gears was busy with all the announcements, prize giveaways and 50/50 raffle. Back Yard Inflatables was gracious enough, just like past events, to donate a moon bounce for the show. It was packed all day with kids having a ball while the adults could admire the fancy rides at the show. Food…FOOD…always a major part of our show is the food. We hired Just Smoking Around, a Golden Gear member, to help us with the food. Bob offered a variety of delicious food options including Pit Beef, Pork and Ham Sandwiches, BBQ Parfait, Grilled Chicken, Hotdogs and French Fries but my favorite was the JSA Loaded Fries. Just imagine french fries cooked golden brown with cheese and pork topped with barbeque sauce. It was delicious! My doctor may question that but for this event, once a year it’s well worth it! Bob was kind enough to price his delicious products so that we were able to raise money on every item we sold for Second Chances Garage. He’s stayed all day with members of Dynamic Automotive and Second Chances Garage, to keep them fueled up for a high octane show. We had a special unveiling at 1:30pm. Second Chances Garage (SCG) placed a vehicle that Dynamic Automotive in Libertytown worked on and made road ready.  Proudly displayed on the back of SCG rollback tow truck was a 2004 Honda Pilot that John Frawley, Chair of SCG, and Rick Trawick, Vice-Chair and founder of SCG, presented the keys for the vehicle to Adam Wyatt of Building Veterans. Attending the presentation was the family that donated the vehicle, Bret & Sue Hamilton, also members of SCG, members of Dynamic Automotive and Building Veterans. This placement was special and fitting for the theme of the car show, as it was donated to a veteran’s organization that will use it to transport veterans to and from the VA hospital. It was time to present the trophies to the car show winners, but first we went to see Jen for some delicious soft serve ice cream at the Snow Bells truck. Golden Gears, Second Chances Garage and Dynamic Automotive presented the trophies together. We felt it was fitting since all 3 parties were important to the shows success. First up was the Dynamic’s Choice Award. All team members from Dynamic Automotive voted for their favorite. The winner was Shelby Nick with his Jr. Dragster. Now, Second Chances Garage had their   choice and Maude Franceschina, Second Chances Garage Outreach Coordinator, presented their trophy to Eric McKay with his 1950 Mercury Coup. Only a few motorcycles showed up this year and the winner was Danny Cruz with his 2003 Kawasaki. Chuck Lowery, with his 1976 Chevy, was Runner-Up for Best Interior and the Best Interior winner was Erik McKay with his 1950 Mercury Coupe. Best Paint award Runner Up was Dennis Berry with his 1976 Chevy Nova and the Best Paint winner was Ryan Saylor with a 1992 Mazda B2200. The Best in Show and overall winner for the 2017 Dynamic Automotive Benefit Car Show was Mike Creaghan with his 1970 Ford Torino. All winners were very deserving. This year we had a very diverse and beautiful assortment of vehicles. After the show was over, many of us expressed that this was the best show ever. The weather was great, Golden Gears hosted the event and helped to get all these great cars to the show, the community showed up to enjoy and support the event. This year Dynamic Automotive, with the help from it’s friends were able to raise $6,952.18. To make things even better the proceeds will be matched by the United Way. We are hoping they are able to double our efforts for Second Chances Garage and the grant for Veterans and their families! The show was a great success and all the hard work paid off.
